The NTDC
Whether you are looking eventually to work full time or part time, or whether you want the opportunity to work flexibly in a self-employed capacity or for a large company, nutritional therapy has immense potential for a rewarding career. It is a dynamic, growing area constantly discussed in the news. There has never been a more exciting time to move into this profession and practise health care honed at the leading edge of current research.
The great advantage of studying at ION is the part-time structure of the course, which is based on weekend lectures
The NTDC is divided into three academic years, each building on the previous one in terms of knowledge and the practical application of clinical skills. Here is an outline of each year:
Year One – You learn about the components of food and their role in human biochemistry and physiology; the importance of dietary and environmental factors in human health and the balancing, healing and therapeutic effects of food and nutrients. You will also learn the ION method of analysis, which provides the foundation for you to become a successful nutritional therapist.
Year Two – You begin to put theory into practice in the student clinic. As well as learning about the scope of nutrition as a powerful therapeutic tool, you explore various tests and diets, trying some of them yourself. Clinical training begins in earnest as you start to apply your analytical skills in supervised ‘live’ consultations.
Year Three – You continue to develop clinical skills while lectures and seminars lead to a higher level of knowledge, practice, discussion and debate. You receive advice on setting up a successful practice and write a dissertation on a subject of your choice.
