What is
Nutritional Therapy?

Are you passionate about quality food and natural approaches to healing?

Transform your love for nutrition into a fulfilling career and you will find yourself diving into an array of career opportunities, sharing new concepts, and embracing nutritional breakthroughs.
“I feel so much better” “I finally feel in control of my health!”
Imagine hearing those words, seeing the relief on someone’s face, knowing you have helped them achieve that joy.
Few things compare to the profound impact of watching someone’s health transform through the power of food. Just ask ION graduate Virginia Richardson who knows that feeling only too well.
“I love when clients realise that they can make changes,” Virginia shares, “that it doesn’t have to be difficult or stressful. It is such a good feeling when a client comes back to let you know the changes they’ve made have had a positive life changing effect.”

What is Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional therapy dives deep into the holistic connection between what we eat, our lifestyle and how we feel. Food is more than just fuel but a powerful force that can heal and transform our bodies.

Practitioners who have undertaken accredited training can register with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) to become a registered nutritional therapist.

Whether addressing metabolic issues or supporting mental health, nutritional therapists are educators and practitioners, ready to guide clients towards healthier, happier lives. It’s personal, powerful and life changing.

Difference between nutritional therapists, nutritionists and dieticians

Dietitians are statutory regulated healthcare professionals, mainly working in the NHS or private clinics to treat and manage clinical conditions like diabetes, food allergies, IBS, and malnutrition. They must complete a degree in Dietetics and be registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Nutritionists focus on research, education, or industry roles and are not trained in clinical care. Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, but those from accredited courses can register with the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists (UKVRN) as Registered Nutritionists (RNutrs).

Why choose nutritional therapy?

To make a tangible difference in people’s lives and find a career that’s more than just a job – it’s a calling.

Perhaps you’ve faced personal health struggles and want to turn your positive experiences into a thriving career to help others. Maybe you have a passion for food and its healing power. Whatever drives you, nutritional therapy offers a chance to change lives, including your own.

Imagine being part of the prevention and reversal of diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and even early dementia through optimal nutrition and lifestyle changes. As a nutritional therapist, you’ll be part of a movement, an army of therapists, that promote better health.

Make a difference

Patrick Holford, Founder and Fellow of ION, says: “Becoming an ION trained nutritional therapist is not only an excellent career choice, but it’s intellectually, emotionally, morally, and spiritually fulfilling. It’s about making a choice to be part of the solution, not part of the problem.”
